That or people around the world found dinosaur bones/fossils and assumed that they were still around. This is the most logical answer in my opinion. I mean how would you feel if you were living in 500 B.C.E. and stumbled upon a T-rex skull. You would be scared out of your mind and go running away thinking that they were still around. Then you tell people and the story spreads. Why do you think Dragons look different in specific regions. It is because of the different types of fossils in those areas.
