I meant to ask this question earlier, but given the occurrences of the Money in the Bank Match and the resulted it yielded from the IWC, it seems perfectly fitting to ask it now. I'm well aware that there seems to be a wave of resentment going through the boards at CM Punk winning the coveted Briefcase, thus guaranteeing him a title shot against any champion at any time. I for one and fine with CM Punk being the winner of the match, after all, last year he was made to look like an utter joke who got lucky in 1 match. Not to mention his World Title reign was atrocious. Now Punk gets a second opportunity to do things over and show that he is indeed a top notch wrestler who deserves to be in the World Title bracket.
But this is not the case with many people, and hasn't been for the last couple months. I've seen many rumors go by ever since Christian's return. Before which MVP was the strong favorite to win the Royal Rumble or the Money in the Bank match as a reward for his 5+ month losing streak. I think most of us can agree that after a losing streak that long, winning the US title hardly constitutes any sort of "reward" especially when the value of the belt is less then then the materials it's crafted from. Truthfully MVP was my pick to win the match.
Yet back to the rumor, once Christian set foot in the WWE, MVP and all other worthy winners were soundly shoved into the corner as the IWC made Christian their "Champion". According to mass belief/rumors in the IWC, Christian was supposed to win the match, then cash in the briefcase later that night to take advantage of Edge and win the title, thus sparking a feud between the two. Thus when this "plan" failed, there was an uproar. Not because CM Punk won the match, but because Christian did not. MVP, Kane, Shelton Benjamin, any of them could of won and it would of produced the same response. I know that for a fact, because today I looked at a question about the MITB match and 99% of the answers were about how Christian was supposed to win.
So my question to you, the IWC, is why Christian? I'm sure most of you are more then aware of his successful run in TNA, he is a former World Champion and a multiple time Tag Team Champion. His abilities allow him to Main Event (to those who know him) and he could be a top star in any promotion he works in. Most of that info you would know by watching TNA. However in the WWE Christian was a Mid-Card wrestler, which is fine by all accounts. Christian for one reason or another left the WWE to go to TNA.
Since coming back, Christian was placed on ECW, a move that makes alot of sense business-wise since the show needed star-power. During which time he began a feud with Jack Swagger, which resulted in the two putting on a great match though Christian unfortunately came up a little short.
Since then he has not done much, not that he's been given the chance to since the Money in the Bank hype has taken up all his time. But there enlies the 'meat' of my 'evidence' against Christian. I like him, I really do, but with everything he's done since his return there is no justification for him winning a match as big as the Money In the Bank. He's been back and has only been in for one feud, and truthfully he's only been back for a couple of months. Any other participant in the Money in the Bank match from Kane to Kofi to Henry, Shelton, Punk, MVP and Finlay have more right and stake to that win then Christian. Really, Christian is at the bottom of the ladder. This is all aside from the fact he left the WWE to join a rival promotion and comes back, and people expect him to get VIP status in a couple of months? I think the WWE made that mistake one time before with Brock Lesnar.
In short, out of curiosity, those who wanted Christian to win, why? What has Christian done that the other 7 participants have not done to earn that win? I'm not very interested in: "I like Christian because he's cool" or "Well he's popular" or "he was a world champion in TNA" sort of answers, because none of those are very substantial. When you look at everything that he's done story wise since returning and ring-wise, why would Christian deserve it above anyoMoney in the Bank and Christian?
Well, Christian was my personal pick for a few reasons. And yes, one of them was the fact that he was a main eventer for TNA. Allow me to clarify. To be an a-list wrestler in the WWE one has to establish himself as being able to put on these quality type of matches. I personally view Christian differently since his return to the WWE. For one, his talent was missed in the WWE and his return has brought a certain amount of energy and hype behind him that I think should be harnessed and not let gone to waste. The fact that he has a top title under his belt now for another company, helps to build his reputation. He's now more of a hot commodity...more experience, more well traveled, well rounded...better than he was when he left. You see when he left he had only won the IC title and had repeatedly failed to get 'over' with the fans as a singles competitor. Part of this reason was his gimmick was a little sillier, his mic skills were a little less polished, and his image was goofier. But now he's been completely repackaged..he's much cooler now, and for the reasons I stated earlier...he has more credibility. And I'll be the first to state something totally gay and or superficial...(THE HAIRCUT HAS DONE HIM WONDERS.) Sorry, but it is true. You know you thought it also.
So I already talked about his TNA accomplishments...but what about the positive things he had done while in the WWE. Well, Christian had been in the WWE for a long time before he left. He has already paid his dues as far as I'm concerned...leading epic tag team matches with Edge. Speaking of which, his close colleage had joined the WWE around the same time as him...rose around the same time as a tag team competitor...yet still Christian was held back by Vince when Edge rose to stardom. In my opinion a serious Christian push had been overdue....and he knew it. Thats one of the reasons why he left the WWE in the first place. So I ask you this. Why shouldn't someone who has nearly the same accomplishments as Edge..(maybe in two separate companies. but similar nonetheless) , and who has the same amount of experience in the business as Edge, why SHOULDN'T he be a contendor for MITB?
(Great question BTW)
TBH christian is the only reason i am interested in ecw. he has great technical ability and charisma. he is the kind of character perfect for mister money in the bank.Money in the Bank and Christian?
Well, Christian was a valued employee in the WWE before he went to tna revolutionizing the ladder match with the help of edge and others. But I do not believe he deserved to win the match. At the same time CM Punk did not deserve it either. He had his chance and went on to win the World Title. And even though it was horrible, He did win that title and held it for a couple of months. I believe that MVP or Shelton deserved to win. 1. MVP had a 5+ month losing streak and the US title is not a prize to say "here take this for being a good sport" and 2. Shelton has been in almost every MitB match and has not won one yet. He has great talent and he revolutionized how ppl use ladders in those types of matches and did it again tonight. I guarantee in next years Smackdown vs Raw Video game you will be able to run up the ladder from the outside of the ring to the inside. With giving CM Punk the contract again they are repeating what they did with edge. And although i like CM Punk and was happy as crap he won the world title, most ppl will say they same thing if he goes on to win another world title this year. To end my point, Shelton got Jobbed.
for me it was a question of why re-hire a guy that they cast aside so long ago why bring him back if they are not willing to push him as a top competitor?
He showed what he could do in TNA and that he could draw a crowd, he has got a heap of fans and would carry the load as a main eventer well. It makes sense for him to of won it everyone is expecting huge things of him but my question to them is why? what makes this run in the WWE any different from the last?Money in the Bank and Christian?
I understand many are behind Christian and many are even higher on him because of his run in TNA, but you have to ask yourselves this; what did Christian do in recent timing to deserve a championship shot? I mean sure, he did work for the WWE before but that was over three years ago! He is no Hulk Hogan to receive an immediate title shot nor does his character have enough credibility to become a contender. Maybe later this year he would make a decent contender, but not now. There are many other performers who did much more in the WWE in the past couple years than Christian, so why should he automatically qualify? I didn't realize The Rock returned O_o
Someone such as Christian must re-establish their self in order to get back rolling.
It shows that the company is in a quandary of what to do with ECW. It continues to be a dumping ground for contracts and the "return" of Christian may have been pushed by a few in management who now are on the losing end of a power tussle. But with the salary cutbacks for contract renewals at TNA, talent may be more willing to take more cash, stay on the road in mid-card positions with WWE and have as much job security as the industry can ever give.
